Abstract

MACRO - designed primarily to detect GUT Magnetic Monopoles (MM) - was a large area detector with overall dimensions 77 × 12 × 9.9m3 offering an acceptance of ~ 10000m2sr} to an isotropic flux. It employed three systems: liquid scintillation counters, streamer tubes and nuclear track detectors. The analysis presented here utilizes the scintillation counters and refers to the detection of bare GUT MM of unit Dirac magnetic charge and of 10-4 <β <4× 10-3.
