Abstract
The ${L}_{2,3}$ soft x-ray emission spectrum of Al has been carefully scanned for a weak low-energy edge predicted by recent theoretical studies of the interacting electron gas. A very weak structure, near the predicted location, but just within the noise, is seen. An upper limit to the magnitude of such structures is established, and it is suggested that the light alkali metals should provide a better test of the theory.
