Abstract

In this work the sensitivity of the liquid scintillation component of the LVD experiment at Gran Sasso, to search for atmospheric neutrino oscillations, has been evaluated. The computations have been performed both for confined events (for which we expect ∼160 interations/year) and for upward going muons (for which we expect ∼200 upward muons/year). The latest events are produced by neutrino interactions in the rock surrounding the apparatus. The results of these calculations show that, in three years life-time, limits on neutrino oscillations down to a sensitivity δm 2 ∼ 5×10 −5 eV 2 for maximum mixing angle will be reached at the 3 σ level.
