Abstract

The reaction channels other than fusion were investigated for the 16O + 16O system at 4.5 MeV per nucleon, by means of coincidence measurements of two oxygen-like fragments, and by angular correlation measurements, in and out of plane, of an alpha particle and an oxygen nucleus. The average spin of the relaxed fragments is compatible with the classical sticking limit, with a strong polarization perpendicular to the reaction plane. This is not compatible with a low- l fusion window.
