Abstract
An experimental program has been started at COSY Jülich for studies of the production and of the decay of heavy hypernuclei using the (p,K) reaction. A recoil-distance method is applied where the internal beam of COSY provides high luminosity. First experimental results on the production cross section and on the hypernucleus lifetime obtained with a 238U target are presented.
