Abstract
The following geophysical events were reported by the Scientific Event Alert Network (SEAN), Smithsonian Institution, NHB Stop 129, Washington, D.C. 20560.A 6‐ to 7‐km tephra column was erupted from Bezymianny Volcano (Kamchatka Peninsula, USSR) on March 25, following a series of earthquakes registered on the preceding day. Subsequent explosions on March 25 and 31 produced eruption clouds as high as 15 km and caused heavy ashfall. No damage has occurred to populated areas. The present activity at Bezymianny, which last erupted March 1965 to March 1970, is reportedly the strongest since the great eruption of 1955–1957.
