Abstract

A new modeling method of global block quadtree based on DQG (Degenerate Quadtree Grid) is developed. Without limiting the subdivision level of the adjacent nodes, the global DQG is simplified based on roughness of the terrain. Making full use of the characteristics of quadtree structure, not only the cracks within quadtree block or between different quadtree blocks, but also the cracks between quadtree block and non-quadtree block are eliminated, which are induced by simplification. Thus, the crack splicing are all seamless. As a result, global multi-resolution DEM visualization based on DQG triangular grid is achieved, ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of the terrain display.
