Abstract

The extent of equilibrium between Radon-222 and its shortlived daughter products was measured in air over the Eastern Mediterranean Sea. The uptake of aerosols by the sea surface is estimated from this measurement. A measurable scavenging effect was found only under stormy conditions when wave heights exceed 3 m. Lead-212 concentrations in the surface air are consistent with these scavenging effects.
