Abstract

The results of theoretical research and numerical estimation of sea surface backscattering coefficient dependence on the parameters describing near sea surface wind and sea surface wave fields and on the conditions of atmospheric stratification are presented. The microwave radar method is developed, for the determination of sea state and near surface wind speed, under neutral and unstable conditions of the atmosphere. Comparisons between theoretical and satellite (TOPEX altimeter and ERS-1 scatterometer) experimental data are presented.
