Abstract
In this paper, a low-cost Vector Network Analyzer (VNA) based on a Software-defined radio (SDR) platform is presented. The operating frequency range of the proposed VNA is from 0.5 GHz to 3.8 GHz, and it is capable of measuring scattering parameters of a device under test (DUT). SDR platform is interfaced with MATLAB software, and C++ codes are written to operate the SDR as a VNA. Acquired measurements are de-embedded using a Through-Reflect-Line (TRL) calibration kit. The performance of the proposed SDR based VNA is evaluated by comparing its results with the results of a commercial VNA and a good resemblance is obtained between the two, which makes it a potential replacement of expensive VNAs for the platforms, where cost is a problem.
