Abstract

The most recent study by Alex H. Kral and colleagues at RTI International found that people who inject drugs in safe consumption sites (SCSs) — which exist in unsanctioned form in the United States — are less likely to dispose of syringes in public places than people who do not use such sites. The study, “Improved syringe disposal practices associated with unsanctioned safe consumption site use: A cohort study of people who inject drugs in the United States,” published online Oct. 12 in Drug and Alcohol Dependence, is based on 494 injecting drug users who used a safe consumption site in an undisclosed (because illegal) location in the United States.
