Abstract
3 cases of scrotal abscesses caused by gas forming organisms, two of which were misdiagnosed as irreducible inguinal hernias are presented. History and physical findings strongly suggested hernia. Preoperative scout films revealed loculated gas shadows overlying the scrotal outline simulating bowel pattern. Attempts at reduction were of course, unsuccessful. Surgical exploration revealed no hernias, but scrotal abscesses caused by gas forming organisms. These three cases are presented to make the reader cognizant of this condition so that if confronted by a similar situation, he might more easily make a correct diagnosis.
