Abstract

The book of Jeremiah uses metaphors and sign acts involving written documents, analogies between written collections of oracles and other authoritative texts, and the fulfillment of prophecy to make the case for its authoritative status in written form. References to significant written documents also mark the major subdivisions of the book of Jeremiah, and cue the reader to an appropriate understanding of and response to the content of the final form of the book.
