Abstract

Routine tests for sickle cell hemoglobin are being implemented in many areas as a result of an increased awareness of the incidence and serious nature of sickle cell disease. Detection of the disease is important to both patients and physicians so that unnecessary surgery can be avoided and proper management instituted.
