Abstract

Six wheat varieties- three bread wheat- HD 2967, PBW 621, PBW 658, and three durum wheat varieties-WHD 943, PDW 314 and PDW 291 were screened against lesser grain borer Rhyzopertha dominica (F.) under the laboratory conditions. The variety HD 2967 was found highly susceptible on account of maximum adult emergence, grain damage and weight loss while the variety PDW 291 was the least preferred. The biochemical deterioration was high to low in bread to durum varieties. Pest infestation in all the varieties showed a positive correlation with ash and crude fibre contents, and negative with crude fats and crude proteins. In general, the durum varieties were less prone as compared to the bread wheat varieties.
