Abstract

Twenty four genotypes of pigeonpea were screened for resistance against Helicoverpa armigera (Hubner) under pesticide free field conditions replicated thrice in RBD. The lowest pod damage was recorded in ENT-11 (5.97%), followed by resistant check ICPL-332 (9.75%), ICPHRL-4979-2 (13.08%), ICPL-97253 (13.90%), ICPL-909 (13.92%) and PPE-45-2 (14.08%). Highest pod damage was registered in the susceptible check ICPL-87 (24.33%) followed by BSMR-736 (22.17%). Mean pod damage rating ranged between1.95 to 5.98. Proportion of pod damaged indicates that ENT-11 (1.95), ICP-13197 (2.58), PPE 45-2 (2.78), ICP-10531 (2.87), ICPL-97253, ICPL-909 and resistant check ICPL-332 (2.90) exhibited moderate levels of resistance and suffered significantly less damage than the susceptible check ICPL87 which had highest (5.98) damage rating. Considering the yield potential PKV-TARA recorded highest yield (17.69q/ha). This was followed by ICPL-97253 (16.92q/ha), ICPL-87119 (16.72q/ha), PPE45-2 (16.62q/ha), ICP-13198 (16.10q/ha), AKT-8811 (16.10q/ha), ICPL-909 (16.02q/ha), ICPL-332 (15.56q/ha), and ICP-10531 (15.18q/ha).
