Abstract

There is a lack of clear guidelines on screening mammography for women on or starting hormone replacement therapy (HRT). The Royal College of Radiologists in 1993 recommended: “Commencement of HRT is not an indication for baseline mammographs. There is no evidence to suggest that mammography is cost effective in this situation and routine mammography outside the National Breast Screening Programme is not justified”.1 This view has been maintained in the recent “guidelines for doctors”.2
