Pfister and Colleagues and Dr. Nordin regarding the USPSTF recommendation on screening for osteoporosis. Drs. Pfister and Colleagues inquire about how to apply the recommended 10-year fracture risk threshold of 9.3% to a certain population—women residing in a rural area where central densitometry is not accessible. Although the USPSTF agrees that this is an important population to consider, it did not find enough evidence on the value of peripheral bone measurement tests (particularly in terms of the link to diagnostic and treatment criteria) to comment on their use.
