Abstract

The debate about whether to implement screening for neuroblastoma in North America is ongoing. Those in favor of implementing mass screening are quoting results from programs in Japan where the government has mandated neuroblastoma screening for infants.1-7 In North America, the Quebec Neuroblastoma Screening Study (QNS) has been established as a result of the collaboration between the Quebec Network for Genetic Medicine and the University of Minnesota. This controlled research project is studying the impact of screening infants for the preclinical detection of neuroblastoma on changes in population-based mortality caused by this tumor as well as on various biologic parameters and their relation to prognosis.8
