Abstract

Results from a four-year-long developmental screening program serving children from birth to six years of age are presented. The screening program was designed to identity children with potential disabilities or problems in the areas of physical health, dental health, hearing, vision, speech and overall developmental skills. Screening measures included the Revised Denver Developmental Screening Test, the Goldman-Fristoe Test of Articulation and clinical assessment. Of particular interest were: (1) relationship between sex of child and performance on screening measures, (2) relationships between parentsAE perceptions of their childAEs abilities and the childAEs actual performance on screening measures, (3) relationships between socioeconomic status and the childAEs performance on screening measures and (4) differences in referral rates for the various areas in which screening was provided.
