Abstract

In this paper, the Screening Constant by Unit Nuclear Charge (SCUNC) method is used to report high lying energy positions and widths of the 3pns1,3P, 3pnd1,3P and 3pnd3D Rydberg series originating from the 3s21S0→3pnl2S+1L transitions in Mg. The results obtained are compared with the more recent experimental data (Wehlitz et al., 2007) and with the fully relativistic R-matrix calculations (Wang et al., 2010). Excellent agreements are obtained between the present calculations and the both experimental data and fully relativistic R-matrix calculations up to n=20. For many resonances, the present SCUNC method reproduces exactly the experimental data (Wehlitz et al., 2007). In a few series where discrepancies are observed, the maximum energy difference relative to the experimental results is at 0.002eV. The present work may be of great interest in the study of the double-electron excitations of Mg playing an important role in the description of its near-threshold photoionization process.
