Abstract

the Scottish Advisory Committee on Arbitration Law was established in November 1986 by the then Lord Advocate, Lord Cameron of Lochbroom after consultation with the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry. The Committee's remit is twofold. Initially the Committee is asked to advise on whether and if so to what extent the provisions of the draft Model Law on International Commercial Arbitration adopted by the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law should be implemented in Scotland and what measures should be taken for that purpose. Secondly, the Committee is to examine the operation of the system of arbitration in Scotland in the light of the Model Law and to make recommendations regarding any legislative or other steps which the Committee consider should be taken to improve the system of arbitration in Scotland.
