Abstract

Plastic consumption in India is increasing in fields of automotive, electronics, textiles, consumer durables and medicine where it is used for the creating the light weight, insulation, packaging, aesthetic, beverages and safety purposes. Because of the capacity to construct desired shapes, colours, and specifications that are easy for clients, packaging, agriculture, vehicles, and biomedical applications are all gaining in popularity. Intelligent and smart packaging technologies have grown increasingly important as a result of advances in information technology. According to Plastic India Foundation plastic agencies, the compound annual growth rate in 2020 will be 22 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) in India. This is also contributed by many governments’ initiatives such as Made in India, Make in India and Skill India, but Government of India has trying to restrict the plastic usage by 22 kg per captia in comings years. Even though there are a lot of initiatives by the Government of India, there is increase in the plastic usage because there is no involvement of the organized sector. This article reviews the scope in the reuse of plastic in India.
