Abstract
In Reply.— We would like to thank Drs Millns and Fenske for taking the time to review and comment on our letter concerning scleredema adultorum. However, despite their well-intentioned criticism, certain inaccuracies in their statements require some comment. In reviewing three of their references, we discovered that a chronic erythema was not described, as Drs Millns and Fenske would have us believe. The article by Scully involves a case of scleredema with a short-term manifestation of hyperemia. The article by Nelson describes a similar short-term manifestation, with no mention of chronicity. In the discussion of the Nelson case, Dr Cormia stated that erythema can be seen in association with scleredema. However, there is no mention of a chronic persistent erythema. With regard to the original case of Bushke, 1,2 a persistent, chronic erythema is not described. On the contrary, an initial flu-like syndrome with a transient roseola-like or urticaria-like eruption
