Abstract

The pulse height response of a 76 mm deep by 114 mm diameter Pilot U scintillator coupled to an RCA 4522 photo-multiplier has been measured for neutrons from 50 to 120 MeV. A peak in the counting rate at low pulse heights has practical importance in the choice of threshold bias for neutron detectors. A standard neutron counter efficiency code has been modified by improving the model for neutron interactions with carbon so that it better reproduces the observed pulse height spectrum in the neutron energy range 50–120 MeV.
