Abstract

This paper presents the results of photoluminescence and X-ray induced scintillation properties of xCe:30Rb2O-30BaO-10Al2O3-30P2O5 (x = 0, 0.1, 0.5, 1.0, 5.0) glasses produced by the melt-quenching method. We observed the concentration quenching increasing with Ce concentration in PL and scintillation properties. The Ce-doped samples indicated intense luminescence and scintillation, and the 0.5% Ce-doped sample indicated the highest scintillation intensity. The afterglow levels of our samples were very low comparable to that of conventional CsI:Tl. Taking into account all the properties investigated here, the 0.5% Ce-doped sample showed the best performance as a scintillator among the present samples.
