Abstract

Single crystals of new scintillation materials ACaBr3:Eu2+ (A = K, Rb) were grown using the Bridgman–Stockbarger method. The luminescence spectra of RbCa1‐xEuxBr3 crystals include a single band with a maximum which position shifts from 433 to 443 nm with the increase of mole fraction of Eu2+ from 0.005 to 0.08. The decay of the scintillation pulse can be described using single component and the decay time rises towards concentration of Eu2+ in crystals from 2.70 μs (x = 0.03) to 3.14 μs (x = 0.05). The relative light yield achieves 77 per cent vs. NaI:Tl for RbCa0.92Eu0.08Cl3 sample and the energy resolution is 8.2%. Comparing with the K‐based analogs RbCa1‐xEuxBr3 materials are more stable and they are considerably brighter scintillators than CsCa1‐xEuxBr3.
