Abstract

Fluorohafnate glasses (HfF 4–BaF 2–CeF 3–AlF 3–NaF system) doped with CeCl 3 and some cerium oxide compounds were prepared. The effect of these additives on both crystallization behavior and scintillating properties (light yield, emission spectra, decay time) was studied. Glass-forming ability was estimated as a function of additive contents. Stable glasses with ~12 at.% Ce 3+ and increased light yield were obtained. A shift of the emission band to longer wavelengths for glasses doped with some oxides, was found.
