Abstract

Simion Floria Marian (1847-1907) is a famous Romanian specialist in folklore, ethnography, historian and writer. The aim of the research is to return the name of the gifted scientist SF. Marian, despite his activities in the cultural and national spheres of life of Bukovina, was left without real attention of researchers. The methodology contains historical research methods and comparative analysis. The novelty of the study. The works of S.Maryan are even less studied in Ukrainian historiography. It should be noted that not all the scientific works of Romanian ethnographers in the national libraries of Ukraine, relating to the second part of the XIX - early XX centuries. His works, which are considered to be the largest in their content and the most significant, are absent; They are devoted to family rituals, which brought great popularity to the scientist. Conclusions. The works of S.F. Marian is still valuable for the Bukovinian ethnographic research. A huge layer of empirical material gathered in this area, the names of Bukovinian informants, parallels with other Romanian provinces and Indo-European peoples, the classical style of his works, considerable attention to the customs and traditions of Ukrainians from Bukovina created an excellent foundation for further searching,
