Abstract

This is an integrative review aiming to identify the scientific production on health literacy (HL) in the palliative care context. LILACS, BDENF and MEDLINE were accessed via the BVS/BIREME, and PUBMED database was also used to search. Portuguese, English and Spanish language full-text papers were included based on the research question. 10 papers were included proved different aspects related to health literacy in the context of palliative care, in which the relevance of health literacy in the self-care of patients in palliative care is highlighted, emphasizing the importance of effective communication between professionals, patients and caregivers. Underscore health guidelines is crucial and depends on adequate health literacy to be effective.
