Abstract

The SEASAT program will use a space based observation system to provide data to be used for improved forecasts of the weather and ocean conditions. A preliminary economic assessment has been performed to identify and quantify the potential benefits of an operational system that will provide improved weather and ocean condition forecasts. Significant benefits are shown to exist in areas such as marine transportation, logistic support for offshore oil development, and navigation in Artic regions.
