Abstract

Scientific academies and scientific societies can play a significant role in the promotion of science and technology among people. The experiences of these professional bodies in the developed world show that they wield a tremendous influence by virtue of their collective membership and autonomy. Their potential to raise the stature of science in developing countries has yet to be harnessed properly. A commentary on the various contributions featured in this Special Issue of the International Journal of Technology Management on Scientific Academies and Scientific Societies is presented here.
