Abstract

This study presents a general overview of scientific life in the second largest city in Romania in terms of population. Unpublished archival material, the press of the time, iconographic sources and specialist literature were researched. The radiography of scientific life in Chișinău shows interest in areas of identity, history, language, heritage, but also in the real and natural sciences. Institutional profiles of personalities of science and culture were presented, as well as relevant case studies. The researched material allows the author to dismantle the Soviet propaganda myth that there were no relevant scientific research institutions in interwar Bessarabia, including Chișinău.
