Abstract
If one were to wonder about the age limit beyond which even a tremendous scientific intellect can no longer be productive, the answer would not be provided by referring to Carl Hartman. Already in his 83rd year, Dr. Hartman still "keeps rolling along," adding valuable contributions to our scientific information and our understanding of this knowledge. The recognized "dean" of reproduction physiologists, Emeritus Professor of Zoology at the University of Illinois, and Research Director Emeritus of the Ortho Research Foundation has, in his latest volume, produced a text that is excellent in content, style, and interpretation. Its 293 pages are filled with information so succinctly and concisely given, that it might ordinarily require a text much more sizeable to accomplish the same purpose. The only real fault this reviewer finds with the book is its title, as<i>Science and the Safe Period</i>may imply a much more restricted scope than
