Human and Ecological Risk Assessment 20:1329-1344 Figure 3 OELs for benzene and associated risk levels. Two-tier OELs have both an acceptable and a tolerable risk-level. Poland and the EU have one-tier OELs, associated with interval estimates of the risk. Conclusion Relatively few risk-based OELs have yet been derived. Only benzene had more than three risk-based OELs (n=6), science and policy contributed about equally to the differences between these. The results are similar for the other carcinogens.
