Abstract

Jerilyn S. Wissler Thomas R. Mertens Jerilyn Wissler teaches 7th and 8th grade science at Clarksville Middle School in Clarksville, IN 47130. She obtained her B.S. in biology from Ball State Univ. in 1981 and completed her M.A., also at Ball State, in 1986. Before teaching school, she was a summer naturalist at Hayes Regional Arboretum in Richmond, Indiana from 1977-1981, teaching nature classes for children K-12. She is a member of NEA and NABT. Thomas R. Mertens is professor of biology at Ball State Univ. Muncie, IN 47306. He holds the B.S. degree from Ball State and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Purdue Univ. A member of the faculty at Ball State University since 1957, Mertens has published extensively in scientific and science education journals and is the coauthor of several books and laboratory manuals. He is a AAAS fellow and served as president of NABT in 1985.
