Abstract

In this work, we present a position‐independent decoupling method using micro‐strip transmission line coils. Micro‐strip transmission line coils consist of a grounded back plane together with the conductive strip bonded to either side of a low‐loss, high permittivity material. This two‐part structure exhibits the shielding decoupling properties and excellent decoupling over a range of geometries. Its asymmetrical signal response operates so that signals from each individual breast originate primarily from the coil facing the breast. In this work we also present a parallel imaging method similar to Partially Parallel Imaging with Localized Sensitivities (PILS) method for bilateral breast MRI by taking advantage of the isolation properties of micro‐strip coils to allow independent imaging of both breasts in the time usually required to scan a single breast without resorting to traditional SENSE techniques.
