Abstract
Abstract The i.r. and Raman spectra of the isobutane derivatives (CF3)3CX, X = F, Cl, Br and I, have been recorded. The spectra are assigned for C3ν symmetry, but evidence for lower symmetry conformation of the CF3 groups is observed. While the fluorine derivative exhibits an individual spectrum, the spectra of the heavier compounds are quite similar and related to those of the carbon tetrahalides.
