Abstract

Exact solution of the zero-mass Schwinger model is given in temporal gauge in the presence of arbitrary background charge density. The structure of the Hilbert space is found to be considerably simpler than in Landau gauge. Unitarily implementablec-number gauge transformations are compared with the corresponding transformations in the Landau gauge. The operator solution is extended to the many flavour model and a procedure is suggested for the construction of the physical Hilbert space.
