Abstract
S CHWANNOMA is the proper name for tumors developing from the Schwann cells of the neural sheath in preference to the older terms,neurilemommaandneurinoma, since the latter designate tumors containing connective tissue elements ( ie, neurofibromata).1Conjunctival schwannoma is a rare tumor. Paez Allende2surveyed the world literature in 1945. He was able to find only three such tumors, apparently arising from peripheral nerves of the bulbar conjunctiva, and added a case of his own. Some of his cases were associated with von Recklinghausen's disease. Duke-Elder3describes occasional cases from the older literature. Dabezies and Penner4reported a case containing both schwannomatous and neurofibromatous elements. Report of a Case History. —A 12-year-old white girl had been aware of a lesion involving the conjunctiva of the right eye for at least two years.
