Abstract

Schumannione, a new butenolide derivative, was isolated from the leaves of Schumannianthus dichotomus through phytotoxic assay-guided fractionation. The structure of the compound was elucidated by detailed spectroscopic analysis including ECD spectra. Schumannione displayed significant phytotoxicity against timothy and cress with a minimum 10 µM concentration having IC50 values ranging from 109.8 to 160.9 µM, indicating it might play a role in the phytotoxic potential of S. dichotomus.
