His research interests are in the field of curriculum and the sociology of knowledge, with specific applications in physical education and health education. He is author of Physical Education and Curriculum Study: A Critical Introduction (Croom Helm, 1988) and co‐editor with Richard Tinning of Physical Education, Curriculum and Culture: Critical Issues in the Contemporary Crisis (Falmer, 1990).
