Abstract

This paper describes the process of a local collaborative planning effort carried out by representatives of the New York City Department of Health, the New York City Board of Education, the Mount Sinai School of Medicine of the City University of New York in order to solve some of the problems that beset the school health system of care for school-age children in the East Harlem district of Manhattan. The origin and development of an interdisciplinary interagency team are described, and the plan they ultimately produced is summarized. Behavioral issues encountered during the process are highlighted and discussed.
