Abstract
ABSTRACTSchool Girl (1971), like most other early hardcore features, has been overshadowed by the notoriety of Deep Throat (1972). This article argues that School Girl deserves a significant place in the canon of early pornographic features. It was a box-office success that received national distribution in the United States. Upon its release, School Girl was recognized among critics as one of ‘the best examples’ of early hardcore production, a reputation that it has maintained over the years. Finally, its prosecution in US Federal Court led to the collapse of Sherpix, the leading distributor of theatrical pornography in the United States in the early 1970s.
