Abstract
School counselors play a vital role in the development of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) youth. Hierarchical multiple regression of survey data identified that school counselors' (N = 126) sexual orientation counseling competence significantly influenced the perceived level of open and affirming services for LGBTQ youth, controlling for the effects of identifying as heterosexual, Christian, years of education, and level of other programming. Implications for practice, training, and future research are discussed.
