Abstract
What is special about school-age child care in Denmark? This article presents an overview. Denmark has a very high number of women in the labour force, and there is therefore a great need for child-care services. School-age child care has taken a different form in Denmark compared to that in most other European countries. Denmark, through the welfare state, has actively supported the integration of women into the labour force through public child care, and has experienced a considerable shift from private to public child care services. However, there are still a number of conflicts to be resolved on working towards a system of public child care available for all children in Denmark.
