Abstract

A new method for recording the motility of Schistosomona mansoni in vitro is described. Spontaneous activity of the worm shows contraction similar to peristalsis. The worm responded to electrical stimulation with an immediate contraction that was voltage dependent. Oxamniquine produced an increase in the tonus and spontaneous activity of the worm. This method provides a new experimental model for the study of drugs that interfere with Schistosoma mansoni motility.
