Abstract

Schistosoma mansoni in the rat: the adherence of macrophages to schistosomula in vitro after sensitization with immune serum. International Journal for Parasitology 7: 315–320. Peritoneal exudate cells from normal rats when sensitized with serum from rats immune to S. mansoni, showed a cell adherence reaction to schistosomula in vitro The reaction which appeared to be due to antibody and macrophages provoked tegumental damage and did not appear to depend on complement. The ability of the immune serum to sensitize activated peritoneal cells closely correlated with the ability of the rats to kill schistosomula during the first 5 days following a challenge infection.
