Abstract

This chapter briefly presents the schema therapy theoretical model and focuses on the way it is reflected in the online setting. It presents examples of common triggers that derive from the setting, typical schema-driven responses to it, and the opportunity they provide for limited reparenting. The chapter also discusses the central experiential interventions in schema therapy, mainly imagery rescripting and chair work, and provides practical suggestions for adaptations as well as necessary precautions when delivering them online. Finally, it discusses the combination between the therapeutic interventions and the therapeutic stance as a tool for bypassing the predetermined barrier of physical absence.
