Abstract

The large amount of electricity consumption in the industrial sector has caused a large amount of greenhouse gas emissions, which has brought great pressure to the environment. The time-of-use (TOU) tariffs, i.e. the electricity prices are different in different periods of a day, are implemented by the government to alleviate this phenomenon. The TOU tariffs also provide managers an opportunity to reduce electricity cost by scheduling. This paper investigates an unrelated parallel batch processing machines scheduling problem under TOU tariffs. A mixed integer linear programming model is proposed for the problem and a heuristic is proposed to solve the problem. A large number of randomly generated instances are used to evaluate the model and the heuristic. The results prove that the model and the heuristic proposed in this paper are effective.
